Table Overlay adjusts the size, variation and color of symbols that
represent table data. The range of values considered for the overlay can
also be limited. Color tables may be dropped into the application to further
customize the appearance of the overlay symbols. A single color can be
used to override all colors.
Controls
Buttons
Sizes (default off) when pressed, activates the range, scale and variation
ability of the tool.
One Color (default on) overrides all color table information with whichever
color is currently displayed in the small color window at the top. When
One Color is not active the overlay symbols assume the colors in the color
table. If no color table has been linked in and One Color is not active
the symbols assume the default color table.
Send broadcasts the current overlay as it has been selected.
The track button toggles whether or not connected displays change in
real time as the overlay changes. For tables with a large number
of points, it should probably be turned off.
Sliders
The slider above the plot (labeled "Slice") controls the displayed value
of the z axis of 3 dimensional Table data much as the Slider
does so for Image.
The two beads on the slider below the plot control the location of the
two yellow limit lines. They start at the ends of the range of data. Moving
the slider causes the data to be limited to that defined by the region
between the two limit lines. Data values outside of the limit will not
be sent to applications when the Send button is pressed.
Thumb Wheels
The left thumbwheel scales the overlay symbols.
The right thumbwheel causes the variation of overlay symbols to increase
or decrease. As the variation is increased, the range of sizes for
table data to be mapped into increases. Conversely, as it is decreased
the range of sizes is reduced until a minimum of one size has been reached
at which time all the overlay symbols will assume the same size.
The lower thumbwheel adjusts the number of overlay symbols into which
the values in the table will be mapped. For more see tricks and gotchas
below.
Menu
Symbol drop down menu allows selection of one of four available symbols.
Applications to Connect to This Application
ColorTool will give Table Overlay a new palette.
Applications to Connect This Application to
None. All applications are automatically connected. The display of overlays
is carried out by making a menu selection in the application.
Tricks and Gotchas
The upper area in the viewing region gives an idea of what the size and
color representations of the overlay symbols will be before being sent
to applications. Generally speaking, the values in the histogram of the
table have overlay symbols with their corresponding size and color directly
above them. As the Number thumbwheel is turned, the number of different
symbols into which the table values are mapped is increased or decreased.
As an example, if the number thumbwheel is turned until there are only
three symbols displayed in the upper viewing region, then the lower one-third
of values will take on the appearance of the left most symbol, the middle
one-third the appearance of the center symbol and the highest one-third
the right most symbol. As the number is increased so do the divisions into
which values are mapped.
